Malta Street Life

Martin Agius - Opening Speech

Dear Friends and colleagues, Thank You for being here on this special day for my first Solo Exhibition. After participating in collective exhibitions, I felt it was time to having an exhibition of my own.

Working full-time in journalism my job is to constantly to photograph people from all walks of life.

Photography is in me and even when I am not working my camera is my constant companion. Being qualified with an Associateship in Fashion and Glamour with the MIPP and the Societies UK, I wanted to do something different. In fact, this project deals with Street Photography. It took me a couple of years to come up with this and I assure you this work is not finished; it is an ongoing one.

I am always curious about people: from what they do, to how they dress and to how they act. I prefer shooting candidly so the character of that person comes out better. I feel that the less one’s subject knows that a photograph is being taken, the more factual is the end picture.  With street photography, I feel that people make this world and through this genre, we are recording society.

A special Thanks goes to my wife Therese, who constantly supports and encourages me - apart from taking a lot of patience with me. She really does sacrifices for my obsession in photography.

 Thank you, Therese.
